WE ARE THE WORLD 25: ANTHEM OF GLOBAL SOLIDARITY

When the original version of this classic hit "We Are The World" first came out in March 7, 1985; songwriters Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie committed that proceeds from the sale of this monumental collaboration recorded by the group USA for Africa were solely donated for the famine relief in Africa.

This was the first ever single to be certified multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America having received a four-times platinum status certification. Numerous awards attest to the song's commercial success including three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award and a People's Choice Award.

This is probably the only song in music history twice over, that can boast of an impressive array of the most popular recording artists from two successive generations contributing their time, talent and commitment pro-bono for a noble humanitarian purpose; to help others in need. Lionel notes that the 2010 batch was carefully chosen to represent a new generation of artists to whom the baton of interpretation was being passed on to.

On February 1, 2010; about a hundred of these multi-awarded artists took time out from their busy schedules and came directly from the recently held Grammy Awards ceremonies to share their voices in the sentimental A&M recording studio where it was originally recorded. The list of superstar participants included music greats such as Tony Bennett, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Gladys Knight, Jennifer Hudson, Josh Groban, mixed with a perfect balance of popular young performers to the latest hip-hop style rappers.

Both video versions are made memorable as their star-studded combined presence pay fitting tribute to outstanding songwriters Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson. This superb music video is directed by Oscar Award winner director Paul Haggis and was shot in high-definition detail with a post-humous recognition to Michael, as Janet Jackson's video and vocals are superimposed side-by-side with that of brother Michael.

The timing couldn't be perfect as it celebrates its 25th year as a monumental classic relief-aid anthem, its musical charisma is again transformed by the original producer Quincy Jones to a modern upbeat hip-hop tune intended for the new generation of music fans to enjoy on their digital players.

Released as a single on February 12, 2010, the proceeds from this effort will aid survivors of the Magnitude 7.0 earthquake that devastated Haiti on January 12, 2010. As the 2010 version is digitally downloaded, global music lovers are secure and comforted in the thought that they have directly contributed their financial support to the Haitian earthquake relief efforts.

New faces, new voices, new version transforming the same global anthem of love, hope, unity and solidarity with the same universal message;  that we as global citizens of the world and part of God's great big family; are brothers and sisters of humankind and are each responsible for our neighbor's welfare. Now that they've done their part, it's time to do ours.

"We are the world, we are the children. We are the ones who make a brighter day so let's start giving. There's a choice we're making, we're saving our own lives. It's true we'll make a better day; just you and me."
